Designing for Simplicity and Clarity — A UX Case Study on Connected-Car Interfaces

In my case study on the MG iSMART connected-car app, I set out to align its digital experience with the premium feel of MG vehicles. Since these apps control essential features like locking/unlocking, HVAC, and tracking, I believe their usability is as critical as the car itself.
A 2023 study by J.D. Power reported that more than 25% of luxury car complaints are app-related, while BMW made $1.5B from software upgrades, showing the business impact of a seamless app.
To uncover issues, I analyzed Play Store reviews, ran card sorting, and conducted usability testing. I found gaps like outdated visuals, poor navigation, disorganized information, missing real-time statuses, and no support for multiple vehicles.
My redesign introduces a cleaner, modern, and structured interface, focusing on clarity, usability, and aesthetics, to turn frustration into delight and build stronger trust between users, the app, and the MG brand.
