Designing a Smarter Employee Time Tracking Tool
Freelance Project

I designed a smarter time-tracking tool to help organizations monitor when employees work outside their country of residence, covering both work and personal travel to ensure compliance. Current solutions are clunky and unintuitive, so I aimed to create a tool that's both useful and delightful.
To kick things off, I conducted a competitive analysis (e.g., SAP Concur, Navan) and applied the Jobs-to-Be-Done (JTBD) framework to sharpen my understanding of user needs. I iterated multiple flows and aligned features with real use cases for both employees and HR/Legal teams.
My design includes:
• Employee flows: Planning travel safety, logging trips, viewing travel history, and seamless authentication (via OTP and current country detection).
• HR/Legal tools: Role-based access control, downloadable employee travel reports, real-time alerts for at-risk or out-of-status travelers, and integration with travel partners for automated data sync.
Through this project, I deepened my empathy for distinct user groups, learned the power of JTBD in shaping UX, and refined how I define clear, intuitive user flows tied to precise compliance goals.
